General Questions
- 1How do I choose the right setting for a particular size patio space?
To allow comfortable chair movement, add 52 inches [1300-1400mm] to length of the table if there will be seating at both ends. Do the same 52" for table width. Chalking out the area is also useful to visualize the size.
- 2What is FSC® certified wood?
FSC® - the Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC), is a non-profit organization that sets international standards for responsible forestry. All wood used in the manufacturing of Jensen Leisure Furniture is FSC-certified. Materials
- 1How do you make the wood so beautiful?
The rich chocolate-brown color of Ipé is completely natural. We apply no colored stains to the wood. Prior to the finishing process, we run the wood through a variable direction sander that gets the wood’s surface incredibly smooth. Lastly, we apply a light protective coating to shield the wood from the sun's harmful UV rays.
- 2What is Ipé?
Ipé is one of the most abundant timber species found in the forests of Eastern Bolivia. We manufacture all of our furniture from Ipé for many reasons. It is incredibly strong and dense, with very high wear durability. What’s more—Ipé is a beautiful rich chocolate-brown color that weathers gracefully. We believe Ipé is the ultimate outdoor furniture wood.
Maintenance
- 1Can I use Linseed oil on my furniture?
We do not recommend using Linseed oil. Protective coatings and finishes other than Ipé Protector can alter the natural tone of the wood.
- 2Can I use steel wool on my furniture?
Steel wool should never be used. It will result in black blotches and an inconsistent surface.
- 3Can my furniture be kept outside all year round?
Yes, Jensen Leisure Furniture can be kept outside all year long—in any conditions. Wood is a natural material, and will require some maintenance if left outside under harsh conditions for prolonged periods of time. We recommend and supply special Ipé Protector to help protect your furniture for years to come.
- 4How often is the re-coating with Ipé Protector required?
Frequency of care relates to weather conditions in your area and display location of the furniture (under covering, partial cover, by a pool, fully exposed, or indoors). In average climates, it is sufficient to recoat fully exposed furniture twice a year. More frequent re-coating may be needed in regions with high sunshine. To preserve the original color, apply our special oil finish. It contains a light transparent pigment that screens the UV light and enhances the tone and hue of Ipé without hiding the grain. It is simple to apply using a lint-free cloth, sponge, or even spray bottle.
- 5If the Ipé furniture has faded, how can it be brought back to look like new?
Wash the furniture with mild detergent and let completely dry. Sand with 120 grit sandpaper until new color is exposed. Finish with 180-grit sandpaper and apply Ipé Protector with a smooth cloth.
- 6What are the benefits of using Ipé Protector?
Ipé Protector contains light transparent pigment that helps to screen UV light and enhances the tone and hue of the Ipé without hiding the grain. Basically, it acts as a sun-block for your furniture.
